Why can filtered water sometimes have an earth taste with FTO+ filters?

It happens, in rare cases, that filtered water with an FTO+ filter has a earth taste. This phenomenon is linked to a Residual presence of active coal dust. According to the manufacturer Coldstream:

“It Happens Sometimes With the Carbon If the Sieve Failed to Do A Good Job by Not Separating the Carbon Dust Fully. Not Dangerous But Annoying for All Involved.

👉 It is not a danger to health, but it remains unpleasant.

From May 2025, Coldstream has improved its manufacturing process so that this type of incident does not occur that exceptionally.
