Do Berkey Light® systems contain BPA?

In the past, Berkey Light systems ® were manufactured in food quality polycarbonate approved by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States. Certain research suggests that polycarbonates are known for lesixivier BPA (bisphenol-a) when exposed to high-resistant alkaline detergents or when they are exposed several times at temperatures above 192 degrees Fahrenheit ( more than 88 degrees Celsius); Neither is occurring when using the Berkey Light system ®  .

New studies concerning a possible leaching of BPA are underway. Numerous erroneous information has also circulated on the waves and on the Internet. The FDA said in April 2008 that it did not recommend that you stop using BPA products while continuing its risk assessment process.

Even with such declarations of the FDA, New Millennium Concepts determined that it was in the best interest of our customers to use an alternative to polycarbonate previously used to produce the Berkey Light system ® . Fortunately, in 2008, a new product was developed without BPA . New Millennium Concepts, Ltd. replaced the polycarbonate material with this new material in order to alleviate the potential concerns of our customers. Not only is this copolyester very durable, but it is also resistant to scratches, stains, bursts and smells.

PLEASE NOTE :  In the past year, there has been an increasing concern about containers containing the recycling code #7. The recycling code which is at the bottom of the plastic containers is called Resin identification codes.  Polycarbonate is simply a type of plastic that is code #7. Code #7 is a tote code which essentially means "other" and most products that do not enter categories #1 to #6 are placed in category #7. It also applies to products made from more than one type of plastic in categories 1 to 6. The new copolyester used by the Berkey Light system ®  is also classified in category 7 well Whether it is not a polycarbonate and that it does not contain BPA.
