Why can filtered water sometimes taste like dirt with FTO+ filters?

In rare cases, water filtered with an FTO+ filter may present a taste of earth. This phenomenon is linked to a residual presence of activated carbon dust. According to the manufacturer Coldstream:

“It sometimes happens with the carbon if the sieve fails to do a good job by not separating the carbon dust fully. Not dangerous but annoying for all involved.”

👉 This is not a health hazard, but it is still unpleasant.

Since May 2025, Coldstream has improved its manufacturing process so that this type of incident does not happen that exceptionally.
