Features of the Travel Berkey®

Rounded dimensions and capacities. The maximum flow rate depends on the water level and the condition of the elements. For a piece of furniture or a niche, plan the space for the tap and the clearance necessary for filling.

The contents of your order

• 1 upper chamber and 1 lower chamber in stainless steel.
• 2 Black Berkey® filter elements.
• 1 stainless steel cover, its button and its screw.
• 1 standard faucet, with mounting hardware.
• 2 wing nuts and 2 gaskets/washers for the filter elements.
• 1 priming button.

Commissioning and maintenance

• Prepare: clean the tanks and the faucet, then prime the Black Berkey® elements in cold water with the appropriate accessory.
• Assemble: place the gasket of each element inside the upper tank and tighten the wing nut by hand, without forcing.
• Rinse: carry out the first commissioning filtration and throw away this water; repeat if necessary until it is clear, in accordance with the instructions.
• Check: the red dye test indicated in the instructions checks the assembly and the absence of internal leaks, particularly around the joints. It does not measure effectiveness against all contaminants. Remove any PF-2 before this test.
• Maintenance: regularly clean the lower chamber and the tap. If the flow rate decreases, clean the surface of the Black Berkey® according to the instructions, without soap on the elements, then prime them again.
• Transport: empty the tanks and remove the filters before any movement to protect their rods. To fit the tanks together, also dismantle the tap and protect the filter elements separately.
• Fill without overflowing: take into account the water already present in the lower chamber before filling the upper chamber.

An additional option for fluorides

The Travel can accommodate 2 Berkey PF-2™ elements, one under each Black Berkey®, in the lower chamber. They constitute an additional stage dedicated to the reduction of fluorides and certain forms of arsenic. PF-2s are not included in this offer. Adding them may slow flow.

Black Berkey® elements use a proprietary blend of filter media. The manufacturer publishes independent laboratory tests for more than 200 contaminants, including certain heavy metals, pesticides, pharmaceutical residues, volatile organic compounds, and perfluorinated compounds.

Results relate to the substances and conditions described in each report. Testing according to an NSF/ANSI protocol does not constitute NSF certification of the product. Phoenix filter specifications do not apply to the Black Berkey® elements supplied here.
