UNDERSTANDING FILTRATION

Scalable flow rate according to your configuration

Maximum configuration requires 6 additional Black Berkey® filters, sold separately.

These maximums are measured with the full upper bowl. Flow rate decreases as the water level drops and is also dependent on priming and maintenance.

Rapid flow may be normal. However, check the tightness of the joints, the mounting of the filters and the caps if the flow rate seems unusual to you.

VOLUME AND MAINTENANCE

The correct benchmark for replacing your filters

The manufacturer recommends replacing the Black Berkey® pair after approximately 22,700 liters of filtered water, or 6,000 US gallons for both elements.

Filters may need replacement sooner depending on water quality. This volume does not correspond to a fixed duration in years. Note your consumption and maintain the elements during their period of use.

The reference is specific to Black Berkey® BB9-2. It should not be applied to Phoenix or PF-2™.

• Two wing nuts and two sealing washers for the main filters.

• A rubber gasket to protect the base.

FIRST USE

Prepare your fountain

• Clean the tanks and the tap, then prime the Black Berkey® with cold water according to the instructions.
• Install the elements in the upper tank with their seals. Tighten the nuts by hand, without using force, and close all unused holes.
• Perform the assembly check, then discard the first filtered water according to the instructions. Repeat rinsing if particles persist.
• For subsequent fillings, take into account the water already present in the lower tank to avoid overflowing.

DAILY

Simple steps for maintenance

The manufacturer recommends regular maintenance of the lower tank and the tap, approximately every 30 days as needed. Remove the items before cleaning the tanks.

If the flow rate decreases, the Black Berkey® can be surface cleaned under water then primed again according to the instructions. Do not use soap or detergent on filter elements. Protect wet filters from freezing.

CHECK MOUNTING POINTS

Dye checks assembly

Red food coloring test checks assembly and internal leaks, especially around gaskets, filters and plugs. It does not alone measure the filtration efficiency on all contaminants.

Remove the PF-2™ before this test if they are installed. Use the coloring and dosage in the instructions. If a red or pink tint persists after checking the assembly, contact our customer service.

TIPS FOR USE

Choose the right water to filter

For daily use, use cold or room temperature drinking water. The system cannot be used with salt water, hot water or water from a salt softener.

Water of unknown origin may present particular risks. The capacities announced do not guarantee the potability of any raw water or the removal of all pathogens.
