Imperial AMB Filter – Advanced Double Barrier Technology, NSF Certified
Made in the USA, the Imperial AMB filter combines a microporous ceramic outer shell infused with colloidal silver with an inner core of compressed activated carbon block and zeolite.
This hybrid technology forces the water to pass through successively two separate filter barriers : a first physical barrier in ceramic, then a second dense and microporous barrier in carbon block.
This design makes it possible to obtain more homogeneous and more stable filtration over time than a system using only granulated activated carbon.
Performance independently tested by Envirotek Laboratories, Inc. according to NSF/ANSI protocols 42 and 53.
Why choose the AMB version?
Unlike the Imperial GF version, which contains granulated activated carbon, the AMB version incorporates a real block of compressed activated carbon inside the ceramic shell.

The flow rate of the AMB filter is deliberately controlled in order to optimize the contact time of the water with the different filter media. A white tube supplied with the filters allows you to increase the flow rate when necessary.
True double barrier technology
An often ignored advantage: water passes through two successive microporous structures
In the Imperial AMB filter, water does not pass through a single filter media. It must successively cross two thick porous structures.
It first meets the microporous ceramic outer shell, which constitutes a first physical barrier against particles and suspended matter.
The water then passes through the compressed activated carbon block, the structure of which also contains an extremely fine network of interconnected pores. These micropores provide a large internal surface area intended for the adsorption of chemical contaminants.
This architecture creates a cascade filtration:
- ceramic constitutes the first physical barrier;
- the carbon block forms a second dense and microporous barrier;
- the contaminants having penetrated the ceramic encounter a second level of treatment;
- the ceramic limits the arrival of particles in the carbon block;
- the pores and adsorption sites of activated carbon are better protected against premature clogging.
The two barriers complement and protect each other: the ceramic protects the carbon block, while the carbon block ensures a second stage of filtration and adsorption.

Compact design with more filter material
A compact Imperial format of only 7 inches
The Imperial AMB filter only measures 7 inches tall for a diameter of 2.75 inches. This relatively short and wide shape makes it possible to concentrate a large quantity of filter material in a compact element.
In the upper tank of a gravity fountain, its reduced height allows it to remain largely surrounded by water for a greater part of the filtration cycle.
When the water level begins to decrease, a significant proportion of the exterior surface of the filter can remain submerged longer than with a higher element.
The hydrostatic pressure mainly depends on the height of water present in the tank. The compact format therefore does not artificially create more pressure, but it makes it possible to better exploit the available water column and maintain a larger submerged filter surface.
A ceramic approximately 30% thicker than that of FTO+
According to our comparative measurements, the ceramic shell of the Imperial AMB filter has a thickness of approximately 30% higher than Coldstream FTO+ filter.
This additional thickness increases the depth of the first microporous barrier crossed by the water.

According to our comparative measurements, the wall of the compressed activated carbon block of the Imperial AMB has a thickness of approximately 40% higher than that of the filter wall of a Black Berkey® element.
As the water is forced to pass through the entire thickness of the carbon block, this design promotes:
- a longer path through the pores of the activated carbon;
- prolonged contact time with the filter media;
- a large internal adsorption surface;
- better filtration homogeneity;
- a reduction in preferential passages;
- reinforced stability of performance over time.
Two thick barriers that complement each other
The advantage of the Imperial AMB filter is not solely based on the combination of two different materials. It is based on the succession of two real, very thick filter walls :
- a microporous ceramic outer shell, approximately 30% thicker than that of the Coldstream FTO+;
- an internal block of compressed activated carbon, the wall of which is approximately 40% thicker than that of a Black Berkey® element.
The water must thus pass successively through the ceramic then the entire thickness of the carbon block before reaching the lower tank.
This design prioritizes filtration depth, contact time and performance stability over artificially fast flow rate.
The thickness deviations indicated are established from comparative measurements carried out on Imperial AMB, Coldstream FTO+ and Black Berkey® elements. Slight variations may exist depending on manufacturing tolerances.

💡 Our advice for getting filtered water more quickly
For more comfortable daily use:
- Fill the upper tank completely.
- After about two hours, collect the first four liters of filtered water in glass or stainless steel bottles.
- Place the bottles in the refrigerator to have a supply of fresh water.
- Refill the upper tank as many times as necessary.
For complete filtration of a total fill, allow approximately 8 hours.
Ceramic maintenance
The exterior ceramic surface can be cleaned when a decrease in flow is noted.
Remove the filter from the fountain, then gently clean the surface under cold water using a clean, non-abrasive sponge. Do not use soap, chemicals or detergents.
This cleaning removes particles accumulated on the surface of the ceramic and restores part of the initial flow.

Important
The Imperial AMB filter is designed exclusively for the filtration of cold water in gravity systems operating without pressure.
It must not be used with hot water or connected to a pressurized water network.
When water comes from a well, a source or a microbiologically unknown origin, a preliminary analysis of the water as well as appropriate disinfection may be necessary.
Performance and duration of use may vary depending on water quality, contaminant concentration, filling frequency and maintenance conditions.
