Does the EVA fountain reduce limescale?
The main function of the EVA fountain is not to reduce limescale. It can slightly reduce some of it thanks to its filtration system, but it does not replace a real water softener.
Things to remember:
- Filtration : above all improves the quality of water (taste, odor, certain undesirable substances).
- Softening : specifically aims to reduce hardness (calcium and magnesium).
Why can limescale suddenly increase?
If you notice scale forming more quickly in your kettle or coffee maker, this may be linked to a variation in the hardness of the water in your network.
The quality of city water is not completely stable throughout the year. It may vary depending on:
- sources of supply (groundwater, surface water),
- periods of drought or heavy rain,
- work on the network,
- temporary mixtures between different resources.
An increase in calcium and magnesium can therefore explain more rapid deposition, even if your filtration system is functioning normally.
Is limestone bad for your health?
Limestone mainly corresponds to calcium and at magnesium, two minerals naturally present in drinking water.
These minerals are useful to the body and contribute to daily nutritional intake. Hard water is therefore not dangerous for your health.
On the other hand, when the hardness is high, it can:
- give a more “mineral” taste to the water,
- accelerate deposits in kettles and coffee makers,
- promote the scaling of resistances and pipes in the long term.
It is therefore mainly an issue technical and practical, and not sanitary.
How to check the hardness of your water?
To better understand the observed evolution, you can:
- consult the analyzes published by your water supplier,
- use test strips TH (hydrotimetric title),
- compare current values with those of previous months.
This makes it possible to confirm whether the variation observed is linked to a temporary change in water hardness.
